November 3, 2023: Dr.  Paul Herscu will speak at the New Hampshire Association of Naturopathic Doctors Annual Conference (NHAND) in Nashua, NH from 4:15-5:45pm.

Topic: Remedies that Get Left on the Shelf & How to Use them in Clinical Practice.

Some homeopathic remedies seem to get all the attention! Dr. Herscu helps attendees think about other effective, relevant remedies for general naturopathic practice. Categories of medicines discussed include: remedies with a larger sphere of influence vis a vis those with a narrower focus; the concept of using ‘acute remedies’ for chronic disease patients and using ‘chronic remedies’ for acute disease patients; and how to effectively use common remedies in patients with uncommon presentations of the remedy. This lecture is appropriate for those less inclined to use homeopathy as well as those who often incorporate the homeopathic prescription.

August 15, 2023: Dr. Paul Herscu will present a talk for the HANP (Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians) from 8-9:30pm (ET).

Topic: Developing more Successful Research in Homeopathy, and Other Topics that Impact Clinical Practice

Course Description: This presentation provides a discussion and framework for tackling problems in clinical trial design, which are intimately related to clinical practice; the problems being two faces of the same coin. Participants will gain an understanding of how to recognize personal assumptions they have in their clinical practice, and see how these same assumptions lead to failed studies. Some concepts will be discussed and exemplified by published trials and by short case descriptions. This will be followed by a Question and Answer segment.

More reasons ‘why’: Classical homeopathy is in decline around the world. Much of this has to do with assumptions of what homeopathy is, how to practice it, and how to test it. Most clinical trials, published and unpublished, fail to demonstrate an effect in homeopathic remedies. Science excels by creating a statement of potential fact, and then attacking it from many angles to test the veracity of that claim. When homeopathic studies fail, there is a reason for it: faulty assumptions. Those faulty assumptions are mirrored and exist in practice. By bringing these two aspects of homeopathy together, the presenter hopes to clarify a few of the problems in assumptions in both practice and clinical trials.

Over thirty percent of opioid overdoses involve benzodiazapines. Dr. Herscu’s landmark 1990 book, The Homeopathic Treatment of Children, Pediatric Constitutional Types brought to life the most common constitutional remedies for children with regard to what kinds of pathologies they might have, how they would present in the office and how they might behave both in school and at home. Based on the early years of his practice, this book broke ground by sharing narrative patient descriptions related to children; it has been translated into many languages and ushered in the birth of a more predictive practice of homeopathic pediatrics. In the ensuing years of patient care, teaching and writing, Dr. Herscu has developed a nuanced grasp and a working understanding of many other remedy types in children. He will lecture on the comparative materia medica of some of the less understood remedies, and focus especially on how we see these young patients manifest in the clinic. This lecture will help expand the ability of practitioners to choose effective remedies for some of our most challenging pediatric cases. Most specifically, Dr. Herscu will focus on remedies that share many symptoms, making their differentiation difficult, and will illustrate a method that helps to make each medicine distinct.
